Gorillaz have announced a new album, The Now Now, set to be out on June 29th.

The English virtual band first teased the release of its sixth album with a newly launched website, TheNowNow.tv. Over the weekend, there were also posters appearing at All Points East Festival at Victoria Park in London that read the phrase “no more unicorns anymore“.

However, the official announcement came yesterday from Jamie Hewlett‘s wife, Emma de Caunes, who confirmed the album’s release via her Instagram story.

Late last year, Hewlett – who created the virtual band together with Damon Albarn –revealed the group’s plan during a chat with the German art book publisher TASCHEN. “We’re working on another Gorillaz album that we’re going to be releasing next year. Usually we have a good five-year break between each album but we decided, you know what? Let’s keep going. Because there’s ideas for a few more albums so we’re going to go straight into that. So that will be all of next year and probably the year beyond that.

I’m inventing a new style for the next album, so that in itself is exciting for me, because you say, ‘Alright, I’ve done that. How do I do it next time and how do I make it different?

Gorillaz’s latest studio album, Humanz, dates back to April 2017. During their supporting world tour for it, the English band debuted two new songs, “Hollywood,” which features Snoop Dogg & Jamie Principle, and “Idaho”.
