Nile Rodgers has been unanimously named by the Board of Directors, chairman of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.

The Chic co-founder, producer and legendary disco guitarist has been introduced into the SHOF world in 2016, will now serve as its chairman for three years, being the voice for the songwriting community.

The Songwriters Hall Of Fame, born in 1969, aims to preserve, honor and celebrate the legacy of great songwriters, with a team of about 400 inductees, while also supporting the development of new writing talent through outreach programs, workshops and scholarships.

I am truly honored and beyond humbled to be elected by such an esteemed group as this illustrious board. I will try and serve with all my heart. I hope I can make you half as proud of me as I am to even sit in the room with you who’ve done so much for the furtherance of composition. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the songwriting community.” Rodgers said in a statement to Billboard.
