Yesterday, many of the global music industry’s leading companies took part in #TheShowMustBePaused, a moment of solidarity in response to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and “other black citizens at the hands of police“.
Created by two Black women in music, Atlantic Senior Directors of Marketing Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemany, the initiative, also known as Blackout Tuesday, was meant to be “a day for the music industry to have an honest, reflective and productive conversation about what actions we can take to support the Black community.”
The likes of Atlantic Records, Capitol Music Group, Columbia Records, Def Jam, Interscope Geffen A&M, Island Records, Pulse Music Group, Republic Records, Sony Music, Virgin EMI, Warner Records, Traxsource and more ceased their business activity on June 2nd.
Among the artists supporting the movement are Maceo Plex, Todd Terry, DJ Spen, Hector Romero, Honey Dijon, Peggy Gou, The Chemical Brothers, Jeff Mills, Pete Tong and many more.
