Martyn Is Releasing Via Ostgut Ton His New LP “Voids”

Inspired by a near-death experience.

Martyn is releasing his fourth studio album, “Voids“, which will be out on June 22nd via Berlin-based label Ostgut Ton, following his last release in 2015, “Falling For You“.

The Dutch producer composed the nine-track LP in eight months after being recovered from a heart attack. This near-death experience made him reconsider his approach to production and redefine the elements that motivate him. Unlike to his previous works, this one doesn’t feature any collaboration.

Martyn talking about Max Roach’s percussion album “M’Boom“It was the first record I listened to in my studio after coming out of the hospital. It’s a project where he works with a slew of top-notch percussionists and drummers and rotates them for every composition,” shares Martyn. Playing this record was such a surreal experience, the first music I consciously listened to after my recovery. I could hear so much space in the music, something I had never noticed before; almost like a 3D experience, with the most striking aspect being the emptiness between the players.

Voids is also an attempt to work through personal trauma and loss, including the passing of close friend and fellow producer Marcus Intalex aka Trevino, to whom the track ‘Manchester’ is dedicated” explained the label.
