The council in San Antonio, Ibiza is working on new restrictions on the noise coming from bars and nightclubs in the West End area. The aim is to turn this area into a “Special Zone of Acoustic Protection” by introducing corrective measures whose effectiveness will be approved by a technical report.

Pablo Valdés, Environmental councillor for San Antonio, said that the problem is the eccessive noise is making local people move from the area. Residents are in fact exposed to “unbearable” sound levels. “This could and should be a turning point for the area. [San Antonio] is trying to recuperate its conviviality and to face up to the noise issues that, due to public-order disturbances and the perception of the current tourism model as hostile, have caused the depopulation of the urban centre.“, he adds.

Measures on pedestrianising the area are also being taken.

New regulations will come into force starting from summer 2018, with the revoke of permission for the structures that fail to adhere.
