Last week American producer DJ Spinna (real name Vincent Williams) underwent an emergence surgery for an appendectomy.
On June 15th his friend Moe Choi aka Choimatic threw a fundraiser “to cover for lost wages and to pay for medical expenses as Vincent is recovering.”
Among the most generous donors are house DJ/producer duo The Martinez Brothers, actor and comedian Craig Robinson, drummer, guitarist, DJ/producer John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez and hip hop MC, producer and singer Teren Delvon Jones. These and many others have raised more than $ 60.000.
Known for combining different genres such as dance music, hip hop, funk, soul music and more, DJ Spinna began his career as the musical background of his group The Jigmastas before remixing artists like De La Soul, Mary J. Blige, and Stevie Wonder. Throughout his life he has collaborated with many other great artists: Eminem, Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Joe Claussell, Osunlade, Jazzy Jeff, Kenny Dope, DJ Scratch (EPMD), DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, and more.

“Hello All,
My name is Moe Choi aka Choimatic from New York and I am writing this for my friend Vincent Williams aka DJ Spinna. On June 11, 2018, DJ Spinna had an emergency surgery for an appendectomy (ruptured appendix). I am very familiar with this surgery and the recovery process, as I went through it as a teenager.
The recovery process for this procedure is long and difficult. As a result of this surgical procedure DJ Spinna will be unable to fulfill prior bookings as well future DJ gigs. This will prevent him from earning any income during this extended recovery stage. It will be extremely hard for him to support his family as well as cover towering medical expenses he’s incurred from this unforeseen circumstance.
DJ Spinna is a loving father, husband, and amazing friend. He has made countless sacrifices and donated his talents, time and energy for other fellow DJs/producers/like minded folks who have been through similar bumps in the road.
In his moment of need, a donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated in helping our beloved friend.
The beneficiary for this campaign is DJ Spinna’s wife, Keita Williams. She will withdraw the funds to cover for lost wages and to pay for medical expenses as Vincent is recovering.
