Beloved Chicago music venue Double Door has been evicted from its premises after 23 years.
Located on Milwaukee Avenue, situated in the heart of Wicker Park, the legendary venue was due to host Floating Points in April, but that was moved to Metro.
Staff were given 24 hours to move their equipment out of the space after being locked out of the venue for weeks. They told The Chicagoist that the petty cash room had been kicked open and $2700 cash had been taken in the time they weren’t allowed in the club.
A Double Door staff member added: “We were always current on our rent, in spite of what has been reported and is generally believed.
“We chose to take the high road and not comment during legal proceedings and lease negotiations. Everything that Brian Strauss says is a lie or meant to manipulate the situation in some manner. You just don’t kick out a tenant of 23 years when you have no tenant lined up and your building isn’t even on the market.”
The hosted many artists at varying stages of their careers including Kanye West, John Legend and a range of indie bands like Kings Of Leon and The Killers.
