Arnaud Rebotini‘s remix, out now on Because Music, features on the original soundtrack for ‘120 BEATS PER MINUTE’ – winner of the Grand Prix at this year Cannes Film Festival.

The track was originally released in 1984 by British synthpop group Bronski Beat.

Smalltown Boy hides a lyrically liberal and heartfelt message that made it the perfect accompaniment for Director Robin Campillo’s drama.

Robin Campello asked me to remix ‘Smalltown Boy’ as a kind of homage to Bronski Beat’s lead vocalist Jimmy Sommerville, who was one of the first contributors of Act Up-Paris (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power). He had also participated in a demonstration concert that has since stuck in Robin’s memory” says Arnaud Rebotini

Remixing a timeless classic is never an easy task, so for Rebotini the idea was  “to do a remix as if it had been made in 1993” and he incorporates club references with house and disco capturing the soul of the movie.
