Spotify has teamed the world’s largest genealogy company, Ancestry, to launch a new feature which curates your own personal playlist based on your DNA!
All you have to do is to sign up for the genealogy platform and send in a saliva sample, and Ancestry will input the data into Spotify’s musical generator which will simply select the playlist with historic music from the countries that feature in your DNA results.
“It’s so much more than the stats and the data and the records,” Ancestry Executive Vice president and Chief Marketing Officer Vineet Mehra told Quartz. “How do we help people experience their culture and not just read about it? Music seemed like an obvious way to do that.” Danielle Lee, Global Head of Partner Solutions at Spotify also added: “Someone with Chinese heritage might get classical musician Wu Fei on their playlist, while a person with a Spanish background might get the rock band Los Sírex. This will ‘encourage [Ancestry’s] audience to explore the soundtrack of their heritage.’”
You can get your own kit for $99. Learn about it here!
