Jon Dixon Releases “Erudition: A Tribute to Marcus Belgrave” On Planet E

The homage EP will be out on April 27th and features recordings of legendary Belgrave!

Pianist and memeber of the Underground Resistance, Jon Dixon is releasing a new EP to pay homage to Detroit jazz legend Marcus Belgrave, who passed away in 2015.

The four-track EP, titled “Erudition“, will be out on April 27th via Carl Craig’s Planet E label, and it’ll features recordings of the great trumpeter and member of Ray Charles’ touring band, Belgrave, alongside appearances from Mike Banks, founding member of UR, saxophonist De’Sean Jones and Detroit-based trumpeter and composer Kris Johnson.

Belgrave, after moving to Detroit from Pennsylvania, learnd the best from the esteemed American jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown, known also as “Brownie“, and then joined the Ray Charles touring band. He later performed with the likes of The Temptations, The Four Tops, Gunther Schuller, Carl Craig, Max Roach, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus, Tony Bennett, La Palabra, Sammy Davis Jr., and many others.
