The influential score for Akira is being reissued in September.
Dr. Yamashiro Shoji composed the Akira Symphonic Suite and brought it to life via the Geinoh Yamashirogumi collective, a group that featured hundreds of members. Some of the animation for Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic 1988 film Akira was then crafted around the symphonic suite.
The Vinyl Factory reports that the Milan Records reissue, which they initially teased over a year ago, will include a commentary by Dr. Yamashiro on everything from Akira to Geinoh Yamashirogumi.
