The BPM Festival: Portugal

The BPM Festival is an annual ten day and night electronic music festival which takes place in Portugal’s Algarve region (formerly Playa Del Carmen, Mexico). Founded by Craig Pettigrew and Philip Pulitano in 2008, the festival was originally designed as an elite dance music industry networking event, but over the years it has morphed into an international mélange of electronic music lovers, DJs, producers, revelers and partygoers.

In January 2017, the Mexican edition of the festival was the scene of a shooting that left five dead and 15 injured. Soon afterwards, Playa Del Carmen’s mayor banned electronic music festivals from taking place in the region. A month later, organisers said they were also postponing its events in Brazil “until further notice.”

Due to instability in the region we will not be returning to Mexico,” the team announced via Facebook. “We have been working diligently and scouting new locations so we can bring you the best BPM experience in stunning locations across the world. We are also already in the planning stages to bring The BPM Festival to a new beach location in January 2019.

BPM, which stands for “Bartenders, Promoters, Musicians”, debuted in Europe with its Portuguese edition last September and now is heading back to the beautiful coasts of Portimão and Lagoa for its sophomore year.

Running from September 20th to the 23rd, the 2018 edition will see the likes of Alan Fitzpatrick, Chris Liebing, Davide Squillace, Jamie Jones, Lil’ Louis, Luciano, Matthias Tanzmann, Nic Fanciulli, Peggy Gou, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Nastia, Paco Osuna, Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, and more.
